This year Feilding High School has fielded both a boys' and a girls' team. Both teams play on Saturday mornings in Palmerston North at Colquhon Park. This competition is run by the Manawatu Softball Association from October to March and involves clubs and school teams. This year the girls also entered the Wanganui Competition which is played on a Monday evening. This was more suitable as some of our girls were not available on weekends.
By far the highlight of the softball calendar is the North Island Division 1 and 2 National Secondary Tournament. In the past three years Feilding High School has entered either a boys' or girls' team in Division 2.
The Manawatu Softball Association regularly hosts the Junior Secondary Schools (Years 9 and 10) national tournament in Palmerston North in late November/early December and a boys' team made up of Year 9's took part for the first time in 2012. As the date of this tournament clashes with the Year 10 outdoor education week, player availability is limited to Year 9’s. Students’ participation in the national tournaments exposes them to a competitively high standard as many of the teams have players who are in age group NZ teams.
In terms of coaches we have three staff involved across the two teams and two parents with a lot of softball knowledge and experience. We have a diamond marked behind the hockey turf but also make use of the skin diamond and nets at Victoria Park.
