Faculty leader : Margie Liengme

The Science Faculty enables students to become familiar with and understand science in their everyday lives.

Science courses prepare students for study in the senior sciences and encourage them to excel.

In Year 13, Scholarship is offered in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Agricultural/Horticultural Sciences.

Science is a core subject in Years 9, 10 and 11 and provides a senior option in Year 12.

The faculty is well-resourced and has highly qualified and experienced staff who support and encourage the students.  A range of tutorials is offered, both remedial and extension/scholarship, across all the sciences during lunch time and/or after school.

Our NCEA results are very pleasing, with our students achieving grades well above the national average in most areas.

Students can specialise in Biology, Chemistry and Physics at Years 12 and 13.  At Level 3 all the Science courses offered are approved for University Entrance.  These courses provide a solid background for students intending to further their education in science so that they can enter careers where having scientific knowledge and applying scientific principles are necessary.

Students who are keen on developing their science at year 9 and 10 have the opportunity to enter the ICAS Science competition.  The Year 12 students have the opportunity to take part in the Otago Science Quiz.
